
The temperature has been dropping, so here's a recipe to chase away the chill. It's for a drinkable custard, but if you want you can pour it into a ramekin (or mug, whatever) and bake it in the oven for a more custardy-custard.
1 cup milk
1 egg
3 T. sugar
Bring the milk just to a boil on the stovetop or in the microwave. Whisk the egg and sugar together in a medium-sized bowl. While whisking vigorously, slowly pour the milk into the egg-sugar mixture (this is called tempering). Whisk thoroughly to make sure everything is well combined. Pour into a mug (or drink out of the bowl, if you like) and drink up while it's hot.
